Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Turkey, North Carolina was established in  the early 1900s. The church name was given by Miss Abbie Mathis. It was a public school for many years. Mother Heath was the first pastor. Officers served under her were Deacon Jude Gamble, Deacon Pressie Faison. Rev. John DeVone was the second pastor. He served for many years. The third pastor was Rev. Claude Morrisey. In the year of 1950, Rev. Ralph Williams became the fourth pastor. Under his leadership a new church was built. Officers served under Pastor Williams as deacons were: Gallaway Williams, Robert Chestnutt, Charlie Millbrook, Franklin Faison, Allie Goodman, Edward Faison, and Johnnie Hodges. Rev. Williams died December 16, 1983.  Rev. Richard Beatty was elected as the fifth pastor in July 1984. We gained new members, the by-laws of the church, air conditioners, new pews, Tots choir, other auxiliaries, and the process of starting a new fellowship hall under his leadership. He served approximately three years. He died on September 2, 1986.  In January 1987, Rev. Carozell Henry was elected as the sixth pastor. He served as  pastor for nine years. Under his leadership we learned to grow with love and harmony, built a fellowship hall, baptismal pool, extended pulpit, choir stand, purchased a telephone, purchased more land and landscaped the yard. Officers served under Pastor Henry as deacons were: Allie  Goodman, Charles Faison, Edward Faison, and Moses Hill.  In June 1995, Rev. Jeffrey Carr was elected as the seventh pastor. He served for one year. Under his leadership, the entrance of the church was renovated; we purchased hymn books and bibles. The deacons were Allie Goodman and Charles Faison.  In July 1997, Rev. Tommy Jones was elected as pastor. He served as pastor for 20 years.  Under his leadership we purchased new windows, handicap ramps, new office equipment, new piano, new sound system, air conditioner in the vestaview, and the painting of the sanctuary.  Officers serving as deacons are Allie Goodman and Charles Faison.  In April 2019, Rev. Kenneth Morrisey was unanimously elected as pastor. He was officially installed as our current pastor on August 4, 2019. Under his leadership, we have completed the pavement of the church’s yard and the renovations within the church and on the outside as well. Officers serving as deacons are Allie Goodman and Charles Faison.  We have two to be called into the ministry, Rev. Franklin Faison and his grandson, Rev. Paris Faison. Worship Service is on the first and third Sundays at 11:00 am. Our membership is
approximately 75.  We are thankful and grateful to God for a rich history that we can share with our young
ones, and we are looking forward to what He has in store for us in the future! Praise God!
